Intellectual Property
Trustees have a general duty to safeguard the assets of their charity. Many do not,
however, take steps to protect one of their most valuable assets – their name. In
charity, as in business, use and misuse of intellectual property can have a devastating
effect on the image of the charity and also its ability to raise funding.
In addition to taking formal steps to protect the name, logo and other intellectual
property of the charity, Trustees are advised to consider any use of their name
by sponsors to protect both their income and also their image, should something
go wrong.
Our specialists have experience of protecting and licensing intellectual property
to safeguard rights and raise revenue for charity clients both large and small.
