Everys Solicitors get on their bikes for vulnerable schoolchildren across the world

Everys Solicitors has pledged to cycle between all of its nine Devon and Somerset branches in two days to raise £5,000 for the charity School in a Bag.

The team will begin their journey at the Bridgwater office in Somerset, finishing in Seaton, Devon, on the first day before heading off to the final finish line in Exeter the following day covering a distance of 95 miles.

Every rider will be required to raise £500 each, which will all go to School in a Bag. This Somerset-based charity helps poor, orphaned, vulnerable and disaster-affected children throughout the world. It is part of the Piers Simon Appeal that makes financial contributions to the victims of disasters. Piers Simon was killed in the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and the charity was set up by his family.

Each School in a Bag kit is filled with stationery equipment and resources that will enable a child to write, draw, colour, calculate, express themselves and learn.

The event will take place on July 4 and 5 with the School in the Bag team supplying an extra two guiding riders and a support van containing water, snacks and a tool kit. The Everys team will be commercial director Bruce Brooker, partners Stephen Forsey, Stephen Clegg, Giles Bowen and Kate Stamp, legal executive Sally Alexander, credit controller Lauren Burroughs, secretary Sam Hawkins, and marketing assistant Jessica Scullion.

Mr Brooker said: “School in a Bag is a very simple but effective charity that targets the education of children to either try to help them towards a future out of poverty or to rehabilitate them after a disaster through the routine of schooling.

“This is the first time we have supported School in a Bag, it is the first time we have backed a charity of this type and is the first time we have organised an event that has involved all our offices like this. Our riders are looking forward to the challenge and are hoping for a warm welcome from all our branch staff along the way!”

Pier’s brother Luke Simon, the charity liaison officer for School in a Bag, said: “We are looking forward to this event. Not only will it raise vital funds for this, it should also prove to be good fun involving every member of staff at Everys whether they are riding or welcoming their colleagues to each branch office.”
